These elections are crucial for all of us. A vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote for a council which works for you. We will modernise traffic junctions to improve safety and efficiency for road users. We will fight for new train stations, increase line capacity, and for a more extensive, and improved bus service. Council services are cut yet council tax increases. The council have cut services for school buses and are ending funding for sexual assault charities leaving survivors without access to vital support.

The council loses millions each year on Coombe Abbey hotel and has lost a million pounds on the collapsed Coventry City of Culture Trust. The Coventry Liberal Democrats will work towards a more transparent and accountable council. We will demand a review into the council’s operations and provide the opposition we all need. The national government has cut Coventry’s budget further, we now have a shortfall of £31m compared to an average local authority of our size. The country has been dragged into recession, stagnating local businesses. The Liberal Democrats will push to fix broken business rates and encourage businesses to make Coventry their base, to revitalise local high streets.

Coventry deserves better than this. The choice at this election is between the same old politics or a vote for the Liberal Democrats and a fair deal for you and our city.

Dr Jamie Simpson

Chair, Coventry Liberal Democrats
